- intimal injury occurring with fractures may be extensive, & full extent of the injury may be evident only after arteriotomy;
- intimal injury may be manifested as intimal frx w/ thrombosis, intimal dissection, or a subintimal hematoma, which can all lead to
occlusion of the artery;
- may then consist of lateral arteriorrhaphy, reattachment of intima for circumferential tear, resection with end-to-end anastomosis,
venous patch graft, interposition graft with autogeneic vein or prosthetic graft, or a bypass graft;
- at end of the case completion arteriogram is performed to assess quality of vascular reconstruction for intimal defects, suture line
problems, and the adequacy of the distal runoff
