Metaproterenol/Orciprenaline/Alupent/ Metaprel


- Discussion: 
- for bronchial Asthma, emphysema, bronchitis; 
- Adult: Inhalation: 
- Nebulizer: 0.2-0.3ml in 2-5ml of NS q4-6hr prn for bronchospasm;

- Metered dose inhaler: 1-3 inhalations q3-4 hr, 
- Max Dose of 12 per 24 hr & 2 min between inhalations; 
- Oral Dosing: - 20mg PO q6-8 hr; 
- Peds: 
- Nebulization: 0.5 mg/kg/dose upto max of 15mg / dose inhaled q4-6hr;

- Oral: 0.3-0.5 mg/kg/dose q6-8hr; 
- Supplied: Metered dose inhaler 650 ug/dose; 
- Solution for inhalation 6 mg/ml; tabs 10mg, 20mg; 
- Precautions: 
- standard dosing intervals for Beta agonists are q4-6hr, however, higher doses may be given w/ severe bronchospasm;

- beware of potential side effects: SVT, PVC, Muscle Tremors
