Ticarcillin- K Clauvlanate/Timentin

- See:
      - Pen Family
      - AntiPseudo

- Adult: 9-12 gm/ 24 hr; 3.1 gm q6-8hr Injection; 5.4mEq Na/gm;
- Clavulanate protects ticarcillin from degradation rom Beta-lactamases;
- Ratio CSF to Blood Level(%): Normal Meninges: 6; Inflammed Meninges: 40;
- Dosing Regimens for Patients w/ Renal Insufficiency:
    (Dose for 70 kg Adult {gm/dosingintervalinhours}
    CrCl:>80: 3.1/4; CrCl:50-79: 3.1/4; CrCl:30-49: 2/4; CrCl:10-29: 2/8;
- Clavulanic acid:
    - in fixed combination with ticarcillin (Timentin)
    - 3 g of ticarcillin and 100 mg of clavulanic acid) increases activity of ticarcillin against 60-80 % of  ticarcillin-resistant strains of Enterobacteriaceae, beta-lactamase-producing strains of H. infl. and Staph. aureus, and bacteroides species;
    - no increased activity is provided against P. aeruginosa
    - combination, given intravenously every four to six hours, is more useful than ticarcillin for treating infections in which S. aureus, beta-lactamase-producing aerobic gram-negative bacilli, or bacteroides species are implicated
