State of Calcium in Body Fluids

- See:
      - Physical Properties of Calcium
- Discussion:
      - the concentration of  ionic calcium in blood must be kept below solubilityproduct of Ca phosphate salt, & it is also important that additional calcium is reversibly complexed with plasma proteins;
      - total calcium concentration in plasma is approx l0mg/l00 ml, whereas ionized portion is slightly > 50% of this amount;
      - most clinical problems of either hypo- or hypercalcemia are result of continued net movement of Ca in only one direction between cell membranes and extracellular fluid
