- for anxiety and depression; preanesthetic medication, sedation, status epilepticus; Adult: 1-10mg/24hr PO bid/tid;
- Anxiety: 1mg PO bid/tid;
- Preop: 0.05mg/kg up to max 4mg IM at least 2hr prior to surgery;
- The only benzo which can be reliably injected IM; Sedation and relief of anxiety:
   - 0.44mg/kg (max of 2 mg) given 15-20min IV before anticipated procedure;
- Must have equipment Necessary to maintain a patent airway, prior to IV infusion Must decrease dose inelderly and debilitated patients and in patients with renal, hepatic,or pulmonary disease;
- Status epilepticus: 2.5-10mg/kg/dose repeated at 15-20 min intervals x2 prn;
- Note CNS depression w/ ETOH; decrease dose with elderly;
- Contraindicated w/ hypersensitivity to Benzodiazepines,acute narrow angle glaucoma;
- Fetal damage with pregnant women; t/2 of 10-20hr;
- No active metabolites, one step met-abolization;
- Only Benzodiazepine that is absorbed reliably IM;
- Also Note Hepatic Metabolism: No oxidation needed, Only Conjugation w/glucuronides;
- Peds: Status epilepticus: 0.05 mg/kg/dose repeated at 15-20 min interval x 2 prn; Supplied: tabs 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 2mg; injection 2mg/ml, 4mg/ml;
    - sedative 0.05 - 0.1 mg/kg/dose IV
