Year Book: Whiplash Injuries: A Trial of Early Management

Pennie-BH. Agambar-LJ. 1991 Year Book of Orthopedics. Article 7-5. J Bone Joint Surg. 1990. 72-B. pp 277-279. Although whiplash injuries are common and often chronic, there is no consensus on management. When the injury is assumed to be a sprain of the soft tissues of the neck, a collar is usually recommended. A prospective trial of the management of 135 adults who sustained soft tissue injuries of the neck in motor vehicle accidents was evaluated. Of these, 74 were assigned to collar treatment and 61 to traction. Standard soft collars had been applied before randomization.
