Year Book: Risk of Infection After Open Fracture of the Arm or Leg

Dellinger-EP. Miller-SD. Wertz-MJ. Grypma-M. Droppert-B. Anderson-PA. 1989 Year Book of Orthopedics. Article 2-20. Arch Surg. 1988 Nov. 123. pp 1320-1327. Although much has been written about the risk of infection after open fracture, most reports have focused only on the local injury and its management. However, patients with open fractures often have associated injuries that may affect management of the fracture. A prospective clinical trial was done to assess the interrelationship between fracture-associated or nosocomial infections and other sustained injuries.
