Year Book: Four-Year Outcome of Operative Treatment of Acute

Acromioclavicular Dislocation. Eskola, A. Vainionpaa, S. Korkala, O. Santavirta, S. Gronblad, M. Rokkanen, P. Abstract/Commentary:|1992 Year Book of Orthopedics. Article 2-13.|Original Introduction.--Acute traumatic complete dislocation of the acromioclavicular joint may require various treatments. Methods.--In a prospective, randomized trial, patients were treated for acromioclavicular dislocation with 1 of 3 different operative techniques: a fixation with smooth Kirschner wires, fixation with threaded Kirschner wires, or fixation with cortical ASIF screws. Of 100 patients who were randomly assigned to 1 of the 3 surgical procedure groups, follow-up data were available for 70. Smooth Kirschner wire fixation was used to treat 29 patients, threaded Kirschner wire fixation was used to treat 20, and cortical ASIF screws were used to treat 21. The patients were asked about their views on the surgical results and pain experience.
