Year Book: Clear Cell Chondrosarcoma of Bone: Observations in 47 Cases

Bjornsson, Johannes. Unni, Krishnan K. Dahlin, David C. Beabout, John W. Sim, Franklin H. Abstract/Commentary: 1985 Year Book of Cancer. Article 15-8. Original Article: Am. J. Surg. Pathol. 1984 Mar. 8. pp 223-230. Clear cell chondrosarcoma of bone, a low-grade malignant tumor, frequently presents diagnostic difficulties. Its clinical, roentgenographic, and pathologic characteristics separate it from conventional chondrosarcoma and, more important, from several benign bone tumors with which it is often confused. The authors analyzed data on 47 patients with clear cell chondrosarcoma of bone seen at the Mayo Clinic and in consultation. Paraffin-embedded, hematoxylin-and-eosin-stained sections were available for review in all 47 cases. X-ray films were available for review in 36 cases. Information regarding clinical presentation, nature and extent of therapy, and postoperative follow-up was available for all patients seen at the Mayo Clinic, but meaningful follow-up was available for only 22 consultation cases. Posttreatment roentgenographic evaluation was possible in 32 cases.
