Technical Problems Caused by Comminuted Cortical Free Fragments During

Intramedullary Rodding: Case Reports. Berg, Eugene E. Journal of Trauma. 1994 May. 36(5). pp 749-751. Comminuted cortical fracture fragments have not been reported to cause technical problems with intramedullary rod fixation of long bone fractures. Two such cases are reported here. In one case an interposed free cortical fracture fragment caused loss of fracture alignment. In the other case the fragment propagated fracture comminution in an unusual "splitting wedge" manner.
