[JC:3z4] 118(1):21-30, 1969 Jul. - irrigation of contaiminated wounds with either 70% ETOH, aqueous iodine, povidone-iodine provided significant protection against dev. of infect. in contaminated wounds; - the inflammatory response of the contaminated wounds after treatment with these agents suggests that the microorganisms within the tissue are overwhelmed with minimal damage to tissue; - saline solution: irrigation of the contaminated wound with saline solution provided no significant protection against the development of infection;
