Insomnia, anxiety, convulsions, induced coma following severe head injuries;
Peds: Sedative: 6mg/kg/dose PO or PR;
Hypnotic: 2-6 mg/kg/dose IM or PO;
Cerebral Edema: Load: 3-5 mg/kg IV x 1, then maintenance 2-3.5 mg/kg/dose q1hr prn to keep level between 25-40 ug/ml;
Can be habit forming; can cause respiratory depression; may produce profound hypotension when used aggressively IV for cerebral edema; fairly short acting agent of barbituate class
