- Discussion: - mild to moderate essential
HTN: - edema of renal dz or cardiac failure, to potentiate effects of loop
Diuretics; - inhibits NaCl resorption in corical diluting segment and in proximal tubule;
- Dosage: HTN:2.5-5mg PO qd; - Edema: 5-20mg PO qd; - CHF: 5-10mg qd; - Potentiation of loops:2.5-10mg-titrated to effect;
- Precautions: - Monitor fluid and electrolytes 2-10 mg qd will potentiate loop diruetics; - Contraindicated w/ Anuria, hepatic coma or precoma; - Use caution when administering metolazone to hyperuricemia patients, patiets with severly impaired renal function, diabetics;
