Isolated fracture-dislocations of the first tarsometatarsal joint

Mehara AK. Bhan S. Journal of Trauma. [JC:kaf] 33(5):683-6, 1992 Nov. Eight cases of isolated fracture-dislocation of the first tarsometatarsal joint are presented. This is an uncommon injury and a distinct entity from other tarsometatarsal joint injuries. Reduction of both the fracture and the dislocation is easy but is unstable. Kirschner wire and screw fixation adequately stabilizes the reduction and gives good results. Results of conservatively treated cases are usually poor, since redisplacement in plaster is quite common.
