Current Concepts Review. Fractures of the Shaft of the Femur
Bucholz-Robert-W. Jones-Alan. From the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Texas The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (American Volume). 1991 Dec. 73-A(10). pp 1561-1566. Fractures of the shaft of the femur are the result of high-energy trauma and therefore can be both life-threatening injuries and causes of severe permanent disability. Shortening of the limb and malalignment, along with contractures of the knee due to prolonged immobilization, have traditionally plagued the orthopaedist's management of patients who have these injuries.
